The Bondurant Community Library opened in 1976. Since then, it has changed locations two times: once in 1997 and again in 2008. The most recent and final move was into a new facility that provided approximately 7,365 square feet of space - triple the size of the previous library building.
In 2021, that facility was expanded with three separate additions that doubled the library's size. The library was still in use during this expansion, with services continuing in unrenovated parts of the building and then moving to completed sections. Now sitting at over 14,000 feet, the Bondurant Community Library has amenities like:
- low shelves for easier patron access and improved librarian sightlines
- large, clear signage directing patrons to sections
- front-facing shelves for increased circulation
- a dedicated storytime room
- a dedicated makerspace and craft room
- a large, established Teen Space with two group study rooms, charging stations, booth-style seating, and a gaming system
- interactive endcaps promoting library services, displaying new items, and providing card catalog research
- a large community computer area
- a large reading area with built-in charging stations and an electric fireplace
- an in-library tablet kiosk
- a designated place area for children
- a community meeting space that can accommodate 300 people and includes a kitchenette with microwave, sink, and refrigerator use as well as a media projector
- a mobile door counter to accurately monitor library patron attendance
- a designated librarian breakroom on the main floor
- a designated craft storage room
- mobile hotspots for off-site patron usage
- an outside "book vending machine" for patrons to retrieve their held titles
Why They Expanded & Fun Facts
The Bondurant Community Library expanded to keep pace with the growing and diverse needs of their community. Bondurant Community Library received a grant from Meta in 2024 to expand library services like their book vending machine.
