The Manning Public Library opened in 1928 as a joint project between the American Legion Auxiliary and the Manning City Council. Until 1982, the library actually occupied a portion of City Hall and conducted all operations out of that space.

26 years after its move to Main Street, the library underwent an extensive remodel and currently sits at 3,000 square feet. The Manning Public Library includes amenities like:

  • a dynamic Children's space with clear sight lines, low shelves, and interactive furniture
  • designated patron computer spaces with increased privacy and room to work
  • furniture on wheels for easy room reconfiguration
  • low shelves for easier patron access and improved librarian sightlines
  • isolated private reading and socializing spaces for patrons
  • a large community reading area with an electric fire place
  • a large community room that doubles as a children's programming and storage space
  • 6 meeting rooms
  • a large circulation desk with separate, designated work spaces behind it
  • large, clear signage directing patrons to sections
  • a study room
  • a "smart room" with a television and charging stations
  • a Library of Things that includes items like a screen, projector, and telescope available for patron check-out

Why They Expanded & Fun Facts

The Manning Public Library expanded to meet growing community needs with a "focus on mobility and staying current, flexible, and adaptable". An independent daycare center is located below the library, enabling children and families to access the Children's Department directly after daycare concludes for the day.
